Our teachers are rooted in tradition and and committed to growth.

At Dance Class we are so proud of our home-grown faculty. What makes our team amazing is they all share the same roots yet bring their own unique gifts to the studio. They value the tradition that dance class has taught them and they continue to challenge themselves and their dancers to evolve and grow every day. They are dedicated, inspiring and most of all truly kind souls. Their positive energy and love for dance, connection and exciting personalities are contagious among the students. We are so lucky to have them share their talents with our students.

Founder & Director

​Linda Desmet, the founder of Dance Class began teaching dance in her mother’s home in 1959. Later she taught out of her own basement in order to raise her children and be close to her family. Eventually, Linda grew too large to accommodate all of her students. In 1984 Dance Class opened its doors to the community of Sterling Heights. At this time, the studio offered 3 styles of dance Ballet, Tap and Jazz. Linda hired one other teacher and a front desk employee to check students in.

After Linda created the foundation to the studio, Linda’s daughter, Laura Sak, joined her mom at Dance Class in the Fall of 1999 after graduating from Central Michigan University with a degree in Communications and Dance. After 29 years in Sterling Heights, Dance Class moved to its new home in Shelby Township. The studio now employs 10 amazing women and offers 8 genres of dance. The new space has allowed for additional experiences to be created such hosting birthday party’s and other special events.

The partnership between Linda and Laura is what has made Dance Class unique. Laura brings enthusiasm into the studio and combines her new innovations with the incredible Dance Class traditions that Linda created.

Thousands of people have walked through the doors at Dance class and have felt part of a magical community. The family like atmosphere is felt well beyond Linda and Laura.

Meet the teachers

Our Faculty

Miss Meg

Meet our favorite foodie, golfer and baton instructor! This is her first year teaching at Dance Class, but her twirling accomplishments are nothing new. Meg has held titles such as Miss Majorette of Michigan, Strut-Off champion and top 5 in the collegiate level at Nationals. Along with countless titles while twirling at Purdue University, Meg has also performed in the Macy's Day Parade and even at the great wall of China!

Miss Michele

We are overwhelmingly grateful to have had the honor of having Michele in our lives for the last 40 YEARS! Anyone who has taken Michele's class has been able to enjoy her calm, kind and consistent approach. We look forward to many more years being impressed by your exceptional work ethic and beautiful choreography.

Miss Katy

Katy is an integral part of the Dance Class family, and taking on more and more every year. She is our Apprentice Director, developing so many of our students in a leadership role. Not only does Katy shine on stage with all styles of dance, she is valuable "glue" for everyone in the studio. She cares for everyone so deeply and makes everyone around her feel at ease. Katy is also a loving Mom to a sweet Dance Class dancer!
